3D Projection Project - Idea

In keeping this brief, the idea I have settled for is a rudimentary game of sorts... In fact, why settle for a simple animation when you can take this a few steps further? After thinking up several game concepts you could make great use of this technology I have opted for something minimal in terms of equipment required while retaining all the interactivity from the players. At first I was considering a variant of a spacious shooting game where the players have to fire at the targets the projector will generate, which then evolved to a full-fledged rail shooter to one where they have free roaming capabilities.

On the other hand this idea has been done to death by video game companies already, so why not attempt the reverse? Make the players themselves the targets. To which my final idea has culminated to: A variant of Statues where the players have to make sure to not be caught moving by the projector when it's "looking" at them. Naturally this is just at the bare bones level, as you can have quite the variation in what you can really pull off with such a concept. The primary one I've had in mind are Jailbreak, where the players have to avoid being detected by the spotlight and stand still if it passes over them; failure to do so would result in their being "gunned down" AKA losing.

While I have not explored all the possible venues where this could be partaken in, it would definitely require some degree of motion sensing technology installed or working in tandem with the projector. Since this is not my field of expertise I am not fully versed on how capable 3D projection mapping is of accomplishing this project, though if it claims to be such an advanced technology surely tracking any sort of motion should be simple enough, no?
